Based on the above findings it is recommended by the ADA
Treat type 1 diabetic with microalbuminuria with ACE inhibitors, even if normotensive.
Treat type 2 diabetics with Ace inhibitors if microalbuminuria is present and patient is hypertensive.
At this point it is not recommended to treat normotensive type 2 diabetic with ACE inhibitors. This is based on the concern that only a small proportion of these patients will go on to develop ESRD and there is no evidence that treating microalbuminuria will have an effect on macrovascular complications.
