The results of the Stockholm Diabetes Intervention Study and the DCCT trial demonstrated a continuous risk gradient between complications and glycemic control. This means that any improvement in glycemic control decreases the risk of complications.
While no threshold was found it appears that complications are rare when Hba1c was less than 8 and rapidly increased when the Hba1c was greater than 10.
