The Kumamoto study - type 2 diabetes patients comparing intensive therapy (similar to that used in the DCCT) to conventional therapy demonstrated that intensive insulin therapy prevented microvascular complications as seen in the DCCT. 6 yr trial Diabetes Res Clin Pract. 1995
Showed a reduction in progression to microalbuminuria in the prevention cohort by 57%, a reduction in the progression to frank nephropathy by 70%.
