We due known that there are other disorders and characteristic that put patients at higher risk for the development of diabetic nephropathy. We are just getting started a looking at the reversible or treatable risk factors and seeing if there modification can prevent this disease.
Some of these risk factors like hypertension and microalbuminuria can result from diabetic nephropathy or be caused by it.
